The Fiesta of the Cuban Street
Rumba
Rumba is the heart of Cuban culture – a spontaneous street celebration, accompanied by the pulsating rhythm of the clave and the congas and the singing of the vocalist. It is the source of movement, expression, and authenticity that can be found in so many other dances. A must for anyone who wants to understand the true essence of Cuban dances and fill their own movements with more life.
Three Dances, One Passion: The Diversity of Cuban Rumba
In our Rumba class, you will explore the three fundamental types of Rumba. Each has its own character and its own history:
• Guaguancó: Immerse yourself in the erotic and playful flirtation between a man and a woman. The man tries to complete the "vacuna," a symbolic vaccination that represents the erotic act, while the woman skillfully wards him off and seduces him. Guaguancó is the absolute foundation for styling in salsa. You learn the authentic movements that adorn your partner dance – and here it is crucial for men to master their masculine movements and women their feminine movements to honor Cuban culture.
• Yambú: Experience the slow, elegant, and festive side of Rumba. This dance is often understood as an expression of the love and unity of an older couple. There is no vacuna here, but pure presentation and communication between the dancers.
• Columbia: Feel the energy of the competition! Originally a men's dance, women in Europe have also fully embraced this explosive style. The dancers form a circle and take turns stepping into the middle to present their acrobatic skills and rhythmic ability. The goal is to show through dance who is the best.
